The L Word è una serie televisiva statunitense, di genere drammatico, trasmessa per la prima volta sul canale americano Showtime il 18 gennaio 2004.
Il 10 marzo 2008, Showtime ha comunicato che la sesta stagione, in onda nel 2009 negli USA, sarebbe stata composta da soli 8 episodi e la conclusiva del telefilm. In Italia la serie è stata trasmessa da La7, dal canale digitale terrestre La7d, dal canale satellitare Jimmy e dal 2009 dal canale satellitare Sky Vivo.
Produttori esecutivi della serie sono Ilene Chaiken (Barb Wire, Willy, il principe di Bel-Air), Steve Golin (Essere John Malkovich, Se mi lasci ti cancello) e Larry Kennar (La bottega del barbiere). Scrittrici insieme alla Chaiken: Guinevere Turner (Go Fish, American Psycho), Cherien Dabis (Amreeka), e Rose Troche (Go Fish, Six Feet Under).
La serie è ambientata principalmente a Los Angeles, nel quartiere di West Hollywood. Nella realtà, per motivi tecnici, la maggior parte delle scene sia in interni che in esterni sono state girate a Vancouver in Canada.
La vita, gli amori e la carriera di un gruppo di lesbiche che vivono a Los Angeles nell’elegante quartiere di West Hollywood.
